| Australia's place within the history of the colonisation of the Pacific was one of the themes I proposed for the original development grant from the Australia Council in 2000 which later resulted in Call Signs. Homeland returns to those ideas, discarding the pictorial elements to explore the idea of landscape as the navigation of imaginary space.
These maps are based on a Polynesian sailing chart made of sticks and shells collected from the Marshall Islands in 1890-93. This project adapts the technology of the Pacific artefact to chart landscapes taken from dreams. |
