Call Signs #3 was the final curated show at 1st Floor Gallery in Melbourne. I had been experimenting with different supports for the electronics in the objects for some time and in this exhibition used green scourers which provided a tough, flexible material which could be pierced with the wires and support the decorative motifs while also insulating the circuit. The vibrant green background transformed the objects in jewel-like islands.
Reversing some of the components also changed the sound of these objects from the stable Morse code beep of their predecessors to an extended, inquiring, rising tone which had a gentle and touching quality.
Call Signs #4, The Gertrude Street exhibition, presented the same work with an extra
unit, adding more variety to the patterns of sound.
